How much time do you spend on facial skincare? Maybe 15 minutes in the morning, and then another 15 minutes in the evening, using a total of seven or eight products in all.

Now, how much time do you spend on your body skin?

Our body skin gives away our age just as our facial skin does. So make it your resolution to give it more tender, loving care. Trust us, you’ll thank yourself ten years from now!

1. Exfoliate your body skin

We often remember to exfoliate our facial skin regularly – at least once a week – because we know it’s important to slough off the layer of dead skin cells that accumulates at the surface of our skin. It’s the same idea when it comes to caring for our body skin.

Remove dead skin cells with a gentle exfoliator or scrub so that our skin will look more radiant, and at the same time, it helps other products that are apply penetrate more easily into our skin.

Try: The Body Shop Almond Milk & Honey Gently Exfoliating Cream Body Scrub (SGD30.90). Made from community trade almond oil from Spain and community trade honey from Ethiopia, this product helps to exfoliates skin while nourishing it. This scrub is infused with real crushed almond shells to buff away dead skin cells, and is gentle enough even on sensitive skin. This new collection by The Body Shop also consists of other body care products such as Body Lotion (SGD19.90), Hand Cream (SGD9.90), and Cleansing Bar (SGD5.50).

2. Nourish it with oil

If you have very dry body skin that flakes, you can consider using a body oil, which is more nourishing than serum and cream products. Warm it up with your palms and gently press it onto your skin. Don’t worry too much about the greasiness – most products that are of high quality wouldn’t leave any oiliness, but is absorbed quickly. But if you’re still worried that it feels oily, use it just before bed.

Try: Bottega Verde Olive Body Oil (SGD24.90). Made from olive oil that’s harvested from Palazzo Massaini in Italy, this product is designed to restore the appearance of radiance to dry skin. For best results, apply the silk-like oil to damp skin after showering, and massage it gently into skin. You’ll find your skin looking more toned and nourished. The Bottega Verde Olive Line also consists of Face Cream (SGD22.90), Lip Balm Stick (SGD9.90), and Bath and Shower Gel (SGD12.90). Bottega Verde stores are located at #02-454 Suntec City, #01-56 Waterway Point, and #01-23 Causeway Point.

3. Moisturise every day

But if you don’t need something heavy duty like a body oil, then use a body lotion regularly to make sure your body skin remains moisturised. Moisturised skin looks smooth and radiant, which is a sign of youth.

Try: Jergens Hydrating Coconut Lotion (SGD8.90). Formulated with coconut oil and coconut water, this lotion has a lightweight texture and provides long-lasting moisture and softness to skin. With its unique Hydralucence blend, it keeps skin from losing hydration, and with vitamin E in the formula, it prevents skin from premature ageing.

4. Protect your skin from the sun

UV rays are the number one culprit for signs of ageing and since your body skin is 90% of all of your skin, it is obviously most exposed to UV rays too. Just like how you need sunscreen on your face even if you’re not heading outdoors, you need a sunscreen for your body too. Invest in one that has lightweight texture to encourage yourself to use it regularly.

Try: Vaseline Healthy White SPF24 Lotion (SGD11.80). On top of providing UV protection, this is made with microdroplets of Vaseline Petroleum Jelly that helps to heal, so that it is able to repair existing UV damage that has been accumulated over time. It also helps to lighten the appearance of your skin.

5. Don’t forget your feet

Now that you’ve got the know-how to care for your body skin, don’t forget your feet! They’re subjected to the most amount of friction and fatigue. Give yourself a warm foot bath to relieve tension, and exfoliate and moisturise them regularly so they look smooth and youthful.

Try: Crabtree & Evelyn La Source Warming Foot Smoother (SGD40). Featuring the brand’s special Hydra Marine Blend that’s made up of antioxidant-rich Green Seaweed Extract and nourishing Blue Sea Kale, this exfoliator-moisturiser also helps soften dead skin on feet with Tahitian volcanic sand. The rich cream has a self-warming sensation to give a soothing effect on feet, much like what you experience in a spa. The La Source collection also consists of products such as Refreshing Body Wash (SGD30), Body Mist (SGD30), and Volumising Seaweed Shampoo (SGD30.
