While most of us don’t necessarily engage in hard, physical labour on a daily basis, sitting at our desks and typing away at our keyboards can result in some tension knots forming in our shoulders and backs.

We’re sure you’ve experienced it in one form or another before, and have appreciated how much a good massage helps in loosening all those tense muscles. We round up five massage places that will certainly provide the ambience and the quality massage you need for a good break from all the stress.

1. Refresh Bodyworks

The Refresh Group was established more than 10 years ago in 2005, started with foot reflexology and body massages. Today, they own five different brands and 19 outlets! It’s not hard to see why when we consider that Refresh’s brand vision is to bring quality health treatments and solutions to all. They only use FDA-approved equipment and provide only clinically tested treatments, and they aim to keep their prices reasonable and affordable, so that everyone can enjoy the health benefits of traditional Chinese medicine.

Try: 60-minute TCM massage with Cupping for SGD 98. According to traditional Chinese medical theories, knotted muscles block the flow of Qi, considered essential to our overall well-being, and this may cause you to feel tired more easily.

Your therapist will knead deeply and selectively at the most knotted of your muscles to ease the tension first, then cupping is done on areas that commonly have stiff muscles, such as the shoulders and the lower back. Your therapist may also do techniques with the cup such as flashing, moving or resting in order to stimulate and promote blood circulation, further relaxing those knotted muscles. All Refresh therapists are trained professionally by their TCM physicians, have ITEC qualifications and have been in the industry for at least three years.

Refresh also uses their own in-house blended aroma massage oil, infused with pure plant-based essential oil extracts, which promotes internal harmony and psychological well-being. This oil is miscible in water, so that it’s easily absorbed into the body and will not leave that greasy residue on your skin after the massage, nor will it come off on your clothes!

Because the cupping technique as well as the TCM massage is considered rather heavy, you may experience some mild aches for the first two days after the massage, but your body should feel energised and re-invigorated by the third day onwards. Refresh recommends leaving a seven to ten days interval between each massage session.
