Hair damage is one of the most common hair issues in Singapore. Even if you take precautions, such as breaks from heat-styling, using hair masks regularly, and extending your time between colour appointments, your hair may still show signs of damage. Some of the most unlikely culprits, like wearing your hair in a ponytail, can add daily stress on your tresses too.
If your hair is lacking lustre, moisture, or smoothness, it might be time to treat your locks to an SOS recovery treatment. To revive chemically-treated hair, Hoyu has curated four ranges of haircare products to help with damaged, coloured hair, which are also used in the customised Hoyu Promaster 3-Step Treatment.
To put each range to the test, we invited five readers to head down to a salon that offers Hoyu’s Promaster products and try the relevant series. Spoiler alert: The average verdict was a 4.4-star rating out of 5! Read on to find out more about the Hoyu Promaster 3-Step Treatment and have a look at their in-depth reviews.
Hoyu Promaster 3-Step Treatment: The process
The Hoyu Promaster 3-Step Treatment was specially developed for professional hairstylists to care for their customers’ coloured hair. The treatment helps restore shine to dull and listless hair while it strengthens hair that’s been damaged by repeated colouring.
When you’re all settled down at the salon, your consultant will assess your current hair condition and recommend one of the four ranges in Hoyu’s Promaster Color Care, which will be used in the treatment.
Before the treatment, your hairdresser will give your hair a deep cleanse with a shampoo from one of the product ranges. The first step, known as Buffer Care, uses a special treatment cream that gently brings the pH level in your hair from alkaline to mildly acidic. Just like your skin, your hair’s natural pH is somewhat acidic, around 4.5 to 5.5, so the first step restores your tresses to a healthier state, reducing damage and colour fading.
After which, another treatment cream will be applied to the lengths of your hair – this step is known as Inside Care. Frequent hair colouring can cause a loss of melanin in your hair shaft, which is why this step fills in these gaps to strengthen the hair structure and enhance colouring results. Plant-derived ingredients such as mango seed butter and avocado oil coat every strand in moisture, leaving your hair smooth and conditioned.
Finally, a hair mask from the same haircare range will be used to lock in the moisture and round off your treatment. It protects the surface of your hair and enhances the durability of your hair cuticles, so your hair will feel softer and more uniform.
Hoyu Promaster Color Care variants
To provide daily nourishment and protection for your hair, you can also purchase Hoyu’s Promaster Color Care sets for a pampering at-home treatment. If you have a sensitive scalp, don’t worry. These products are all formulated without sulfates, so they’re extra gentle on delicate, damaged hair.
For shinier, smoother hair, reach for the Stylish range. This range is formulated with 18MEA, which are artificial cuticles that repair your strands and smooth out rough surfaces. Rose and citrus oils give the products a fresh, relaxing scent that will help you unwind.
To moisturise dry hair and control frizz, try the Rich series. Its key ingredient is hyaluronic acid, which coats the surface of your hair and draws moisture to every strand. This range gives dry, coarse hair a much-needed boost of hydration. Each product bears elegant, refreshing hints of apple and jasmine too.
If you use heat stylers like a hairdryer, flat iron, or curling iron regularly, you’ll want to try the Sweetia range. Every product is packed with complex amino acids that strengthen and repair your hair, so you’ll be able to run your fingers through your soft, silky strands after. This series is perfumed with the sweet scent of berries and lily of the valley.
Tame any waviness caused by hair damage with the Calmy range. This series uses lysine to keep your hair’s moisture content balanced, making it smoother and more manageable over time. The soothing aroma of bergamot and lush greens will also calm your senses.

Hoyu Promaster 3-Step Treatment review: 5 readers give their honest opinions
Hoyu Promaster 3-Step Treatment
All reviewers were impressed with how effective the Hoyu Promaster 3-Step Treatment was, unlike other salon hair treatments they tried in the past. They liked how quick they were to see the results, which left them with softer, smoother, frizz-free tresses.
Some reviewers noted that their hair looked significantly healthier in under an hour too. Most of them loved the scent of the products used, and all of them found the duration of the treatment just right. Most reviewers said they would continue using Hoyu’s products and would recommend the treatment to others.
Hair type/condition: Dry, damaged, frizzy hair
Every four to six months, I’ll use a DIY box hair dye to cover my grey roots. Having done this for years as well as using a curling iron every other day, my hair has started to become drier. Since I also have damaged ends due to a chemical treatment I tried, my consultant used the Stylish range on my hair during the treatment.
My hair was less tangled and was smooth to the touch after the treatment. It felt much softer, looked sleek and shiny too. My hair was definitely less frizzy and easier to manage. The duration of the treatment wasn’t too long, and the products smelled really good.
Hair type/condition: Thick, damaged, frizzy, coloured hair
I schedule a hair colouring appointment every one and a half or two months because I need to cover my greys regularly. My hair consultant, James, was very thorough at explaining the purpose as well as the expected result of each step. He noticed that my hair was dry and damaged due to the long-term hair colouring and suggested to restore its moisture levels with the Rich series.
After the treatment, my hair felt lighter without feeling sticky or greasy. It had a natural, healthy shine. My hair felt softer and the damaged strands looked less frizzy too. When I get out of bed in the morning, my hair doesn’t look as unruly as it used to.
The treatment is also one of the fastest I’ve experienced and it was still able to send me home with great results. Overall, it was a very quick and effective treatment, and the consultant at Searching Salon was very reassuring.
Hair type/condition: Thick, dry, damaged, frizzy, coloured hair
I like to dye my hair at least once every three to four months as I do not like natural colours like black or brown. When I see hair inspirations on social media, I get swayed to try out new colours too.
I’ve tried green, red, and purple so far and it has definitely damaged my hair strands. I have a lot of split ends! So, prior to the treatment, I dyed my green hair back to black to make it easier for me to maintain my hair’s health.
My hairdresser recommended the Sweetia range and explained the purpose of each step of the treatment and how it helps my hair prolong the colour. After the treatment, my damaged hair looked sleeker and felt more moisturised. It was also smoother and not as stiff as it was. The visible split ends were also less noticeable.
I was not only impressed by the immediate results, but also its long-lasting effect. With most hair treatments, my hair feels soft right after, but it goes back to normal a few days after. With this treatment, I can still see and feels its effects, which makes it even more worth it.

Hair type/condition: Thick, dry, coloured hair
I colour my hair about twice a year, during the festive period or before travelling. I like to switch my look and hair colour is one of the fastest ways to do so. A year ago, I bleached my hair, and the lightened base made it even easier for me to try new colours.
After experimenting with purple-brown, navy blue, and brown with red highlights, my hair became drier and frizzier. I tried shampoos for coloured hair and hair masks, but they didn’t seem to improve my hair condition.
My hairdresser suggested that I go for the Calmy range as I had slight waves in my hair that were caused by constant hair colouring. He also mentioned that the ends of my hair were very dry. After the treatment, my hair felt much softer and silkier. When I ran my fingers through my hair, there were no knots or resistance at all – something I haven’t experienced in quite some time.
Overall, my hair looked healthier and the colour looked more vibrant too. I would definitely recommend this to those who have coloured or bleached hair. Instant results could be seen and felt after one treatment!

Hair type/condition: Dry, damaged, coloured hair
It’s fun to try new hair colours and styles, so I switch it up about twice a year. I’ve tried pink, blue, turquoise, green, and brown so far. My hair would feel very dry after a few weeks and I would start to notice hair fall too.
The hairdresser suggested that I have a trim before the treatment, so it could restore the shine to my hair. After the treatment, my hair looked shinier and felt smooth. There weren’t any frizz or tangled ends in sight. My hair colour appeared brighter too – even my friends and colleagues thought I recoloured my hair.
Compared to other salon treatments I tried in the past, this one is faster and more convenient. The duration is just right, slightly below an hour. The results were great and the products smelled good too. The improvements became more obvious over the week, especially when I continue to use the Hoyu products. My hair remained shiny, smooth, and soft.
