KraveBeauty’s Matcha Hemp Hydrating Cleanser was a runaway hit for a reason. Its gentle, jelly-like texture, effective cleansing power, and for-all-skin-types magic made it a darling amongst skincare enthusiasts, including myself.

But KraveBeauty isn’t one to rest on their laurels. In 2022, they reformulated their hero product to simplify its ingredient list and remove sweet almond oil so it’d be suitable for those with nut allergies.

Well, the brand has tweaked the formula yet again in 2024.

I’m here to spill the tea (or matcha?) on the cleanser. Stick around, because the brand has finally launched in Sephora Singapore and I’ll be sharing all the products you simply have to try.

What’s Different About the Cleanser?

The OG and second version of the cleanser boasted a bouncy, gel-like texture that lathered beautifully. Coconut-based surfactants did the heavy lifting of cleansing, while matcha and hemp seed oil provided a one-two punch of antioxidants and hydration.

I loved the soothing, refreshing effect it had on my skin, leaving it clean and balanced – never dry or stripped.

So, what’s changed with the new iteration? Let’s break it down:

Ingredient Swap

As you may have noticed in the product name, Krave opted to remove the hemp seed oil (due to the regulations in Singapore) and introduce heartleaf extract.

Houttuynia Cordata extract (not to be confused with the song from The Lion King) is known for its calming and redness-reducing properties, making it a great addition for those with sensitive or easily irritated skin.

Subtle Shift in Shade

Keen observers will notice a change in colour. The original formula leaned towards a brownish hue, while the new one boasts a lighter green shade. Rest assured, the calming green tea leaf scent remains the same.

It’s Lighter and Fresher

The new formula feels lighter and has a more viscous texture compared to the original. This doesn’t translate to a loss of cleansing power, though.

They both produce a mild foam that effectively removes impurities, and I noticed a fresher feeling post-cleanse.

The Verdict

I was initially apprehensive about a reformulation of my beloved cleanser. However, KraveBeauty has delivered.

The new Matcha Heartleaf Hydrating Cleanser retains everything I loved about the original – its gentle cleansing power, refreshing feel, and ability to balance my combination, acne-prone, sensitive complexion.

If you adored the original Matcha Hemp Hydrating Cleanser, there’s no need to panic. This new version is a worthy successor, offering a slightly lighter texture and potentially even more calming benefits.

And for those who haven’t yet experienced the magic of KraveBeauty’s original cleanser, the new Matcha Heartleaf Hydrating Cleanser is definitely worth a try.
