When it comes to makeup, I’ve always been an advocate of something that can perk up my complexion quickly. As such, I don’t really spend that much time getting ready in the morning – typically just 15 minutes – but of which, half is spent on perfecting my brows. After all, our brows frame our features and I’ve always felt that getting them into the shape help me look more awake. And on days that I am rushing for time or am feeling lazy, finishing my brows and a touch of lip colour were all I needed.

Because of how quick I prefer my routine to be, I have done micro-blading some time ago as a way to achieve brows on fleek all the time. However, the cost and pain involved make me hesitant about going again. And this is how I find myself putting off appointments for my next visit. As such, I’m constantly on the lookout for a great brow makeup product that gives me defined but natural-looking brows effortlessly.

Maybelline Tattoo Brow Ink Pen review

A new collection of Maybelline brow products has been released. While the brand has always been on the forefront of makeup innovation, I was still surprised when I got my hands on the new Tattoo Brow Ink Pen. It looks incredibly different from what you can typically find in the market.

The first thing that caught my eyes (and I’m sure yours, too) is its unique micro-fork tip applicator. Its unique design isn’t just making it a fun new toy to try, but serves a practical function. I find that the applicator allows me to create precise hair-like strokes, which doesn’t just look “neater” but also cover more area at once, making it a time-saver for me. The applicator is firm, which gives me ease of control, while the bold pigment it delivers helps me create my desired look effortlessly.

But seeing is believing. See for yourself the difference it makes to my brows:

It took me less time to complete my makeup with the Tattoo Brow Ink Pen, but what I’m more concerned about is whether it would last through the day and what those around me thought of the look.

Friends thought I went for micro-blading

It was Monday when I tried this product. The first colleague I met when I entered the office asked if I had gone for micro-blading over the weekend. When I told her my brows weren’t micro-bladed, she was surprised and wanted to know what I had done differently to my makeup that day.

Encouraged by the remark, I decided to take a selfie and send it to a group chat, captioned “new week, new look”. Two of my girlfriends instantly responded and asked if I had gone for micro-blading recently.

I sent this selfie to my friends.

Finally, just as a little prank, I told another colleague that I micro-bladed my brows over the weekend. She looked up close for a while, commented that it looked very natural, and then said, “Oh, your skin healed really fast! Usually you’ll get some redness around the area after micro-blading.”

Oh yes, she’s quite on point with the description; the product has indeed delivered micro-blading results – without any pain nor redness.

How did it go at the end of the day?

The pigment stayed on throughout the day, which meant my brows were still on fleek even at 8pm when I got home – a good 12 hours since I first applied it – even when the rest of my makeup have started crumbling. It is absolutely smudge-proof the moment it dries down, leaving no stain even as I tried to clean it off with a tissue to see how well it holds up.

The Tattoo Brow Ink Pen still held up after 12 hours, although the rest of my makeup has crumbled.

I really enjoyed how easy it was to apply the product and the incredible results that it delivered. In fact, you could tell how good it is from the number of people who believed I did micro-blading. If you have sensitive skin that’s unsuitable for micro-blading, find the procedure too costly, or have low tolerance for pain, then the Maybelline Tattoo Brow Ink Pen will certainly make a good alternative.

It is available in three shades: Grey Brown, Natural Brown (what I wore), and Red Brown. It retails at SGD17.90 and is available at all Maybelline counters at Watsons, Guardian, SASA, major supermarkets and hypermarkets and selected department stores.
