Skin prior to facial.
My skin has always been relatively clear — though with my combination skin type, I find that I’m prone to congestion and breakouts along my T-Zone. These days, there are also a couple of oil seeds (or milia seeds, if you want to get technical about it) cropping up, due to using a new product in my skincare routine that is a little too rich for my complexion. Ugh.
The whole treatment started off with a detailed analysis of my current skin condition. My therapist, Serene, first got a scan of my healthy skin cells from a patch by the inside of my elbow. She then proceeded to get close-up shots of the skin on my face, wasting no time in showing me just how clogged and congested it was.
I have never cringed as much looking at my complexion. My T-Zone was severely clogged, with blackheads, whiteheads, and oil seeds in a variety of sizes scattered all over it. It felt like a literal graveyard for healthy skin cells.
Through this analysis, Serene was able to come up with a customised treatment for me that would bring me a step closer to the radiant, healthy skin of dreams. After a thorough explanation of what was going to go down during the facial, I was whisked away to my treatment room.
The room was small, clean, and cosy. I was told that this is because New York Skin Solutions is all about providing effective, clinical treatments to your skin, and not so much a focus on the spa experience.
Nevertheless, the room is nice and soothing, especially after the lights were dimmed.
As with most facials, the New York Skin Solutions Hydrocollagen+ Skin Treatment kicked off with a cleanse. Unlike most facials, they utilise a three-step cleansing ritual instead of two.
The first cleanser used was a gentle liquid cleanser suitable for all skin types. It thoroughly removed all traces of makeup on my face without stripping it of moisture.
The next cleanser used was perfect for ridding impurities and excess oil from oily and blemish prone skin, and best of all? It didn’t dry out my skin!
She then proceeded to the last step of the cleansing process and effectively cleared off any debris and gunk on my face, leaving me with a clean, fresh complexion.
A mask is then applied to my face for 5-8 mins to soften the blackheads, whiteheads and pores on my face to make for easier extraction.
Then came the dreaded part to every facial: the extraction. I could feel Serene working her magic throughout my face, methodically and swiftly extracting the variety of blackheads and oil seeds buried deep under my skin. There was slight pain involved, but it didn’t hurt that bad, and I appreciated how thorough and quick she was throughout.
An antibacterial tonic was applied my red, flushed skin after to calm it down in preparation for the star of the show: the Hydrocollagen+ Skin Treatment.
The famed HydroCollagen+ serum was first applied to one part of my face, and ultrasound technology was used to ensure that it penetrated into my skin effortlessly.
This serum is filled with ingredients that are great for your skin — think hydrolysed marine collagen, hyaluronic acid, and other bio-active ingredients that repair, renew, and rejuvenate the skin.
I noticed she focused a lot on my under-eye area, where my very much apparent eye bags and dark circles are. This treatment is also designed to help lighten them so I was very much looking forward to seeing if there were any results in that regard.
At the end of it, my skin felt noticeably cooler and brighter. This brought us to the next step: a massage, of course! I was given a hydrating serum to add some moisture to my complexion before a lavender oil massage.
The whole process was so calming, I was pretty much falling asleep by the time Serene gently informed me that she’d be applying a two-part mask for me. The first part involves a honey mask, which mainly hydrates and adds moisture back to dry, parched skin.
After that was applied, a gauze was put over my face before a chamomile mask was slathered on over it. I was told it helps reduce redness and calms irritated, swelling skin!
The mask felt extremely cooling on my heated skin, which I thoroughly enjoyed, with the end result bearing an uncanny resemblance to an extra off the set of The Mummy – but I’m not complaining because I was about to emerge with radiant skin!
After 20 minutes, my mask was taken off, with toner, serum, moisturiser, and sunscreen applied in quick succession, and voila!
What were the results of the New York Skin Solutions Hydrocollagen+ Skin Treatment?

As you can see, my skin is visibly brighter, clearer, and cleaner! Even my photographer marveled at how much fresher my skin appeared, with my dark eye circles appearing less noticeable after. My skin also felt soft, dewy, and bouncy hours after the treatment, with these long-lasting effects carrying on throughout the rest of the week.
Of course, the effects also lasted due to the New York Skin Solutions products I was using. I was given a set of helpful products containing cleansers and masks used during my facial, and I love how effective they are for my skin! Overall, I experience less breakouts now, and my dark eye circles are significantly reduced as a whole. Score!
