Let’s face it, hair loss is inevitable. It’s an issue that we will all experience at some point in our lives and can be set off by numerous factors – whether it pertains to our lifestyle or genetics. For me, it happened after giving birth to my first child in the form of postpartum hair fall.

I was blessed with a beautiful head of hair during pregnancy, with little to no shedding at all. My fuller, glossier tresses made me look more youthful, which gave me a huge boost of confidence. Unfortunately, that didn’t last very long. Three months after I gave birth, my hormones fluctuated again, and I experienced massive hair loss.

Postpartum hair loss is a very common issue that almost all mothers will go through after delivery. It’s something I thought I was prepared for, but when I saw clumps of hair collected at my shower drain cover and an increase in hair fall when I blow-dried my hair, I panicked.

I did not expect to be losing this much hair daily. Thankfully, my hair is rather thick in the first place, so it’s not immediately obvious from a distance. However, my thinning hairline appears more noticeable as of late, and it looks a little more sparse at the crown.

To cover up my hairline and create the illusion of fuller hair at the top, I would usually style my locks in a half-up hairdo. In a bid to tackle my postpartum hair loss, I also tried various drugstore shampoos and treatments aimed at hair loss and thinning, but the results I saw were less than satisfactory.

Tired of numerous trials and errors, I decided to search for hair loss solutions that are scientifically formulated and medically backed instead. After scouring the internet for a suitable solution, I landed on Papilla Haircare, a hair loss and scalp treatment centre that offers its Papilla DNA Activator to target hair thinning.

This multi-stage hair regrowth system uses Papilla’s proprietary Double i-i protocol to stimulate the natural hair growth cycle as it rejuvenates the scalp for healthier, more lustrous hair. I quickly signed up for a consultation and treatment session to find out if it could help me regain my confidence. Here’s how it went!

Papilla DNA Activator review: The consultation

Papilla DNA Activator review questionnaire

As I walked into Papilla Haircare, I was greeted by a gorgeous, welcoming interior that was luxurious and clean, which put me at ease instantly. The consultant handed me a questionnaire form to fill in so that she would be able to better understand my hair condition, such as my lifestyle habits and common occurrences of hair loss.

Shortly after, I was ushered into a private room for a consultation. The consultation room was compact but cosy, outfitted with a computer screen and a handheld device. The consultant gently placed a handpiece on areas of my scalp to take magnified images, so she could show me the current state of my scalp and hair roots.

Clogged hair pores and pink areas appeared on the computer screen, which indicated a congested scalp and skin sensitivity. The consultant mentioned that while my case isn’t very serious, monthly maintenance is ideal in order to reap optimal results.

Besides hair treatments, she also shared a few useful tips I could easily implement at home, such as washing my hair with cold water and blow-drying my hair completely.

Papilla DNA Activator review: The treatment process

Papilla DNA Activator review micro bubble generator

After the consultation, I was led to the shampoo area where the Papilla DNA Activator treatment began. The therapist first applied the micro bubble generator to cleanse my hair and scalp. It also utilises micro-waves, which are created by anion bubbles, to deeply cleanse and balance my scalp’s pH levels.

Papilla DNA Activator review head spa massager

Next, he used a head spa massager that emits galvanic ions to stimulate and improve circulation. It was so relaxing that I almost fell asleep in the comfortable chair.

Papilla DNA Activator review liquid hair tonic

After a quick rinse, I settled in my seat at the treatment area. Each treatment station is separated by plush velvet curtains, which provided sufficient personal space for optimal comfort. Here, my therapist sprayed a liquid hair tonic on my scalp with an airbrush tool. Specially formulated in Korea, the tonic contains healthy growth factors and salmon PDRN to repair damaged cells.

In fact, Papilla is the first treatment centre in Singapore to adopt the use of salmon PDRN to treat hair thinning and hair loss. The ingredient repairs the hair follicle at a cellular level and aids in cell growth and tissue regeneration. These extracts are harvested from their own laboratories in Korea and are shown to reverse DNA damage and improve the scalp’s condition.

Papilla DNA Activator review iontophoresis

To stimulate the absorption of the tonic, he used an iontophoresis tool to massage my scalp. It has a flat, cooling surface that promotes the absorption of nutrients by utilising galvanic ions. This key step activates dormant and weakened dermal cells on the scalp, regulating and boosting the hair growth process to produce longer, fuller hair over time.

Papilla DNA Activator review UV light therapy

The Papilla DNA Activator treatment ended with a 10-minute low-level light treatment (LLLT) session. I donned a pair of shades to shield my eyes from the light rays as my therapist wheeled out a futuristic-looking light therapy machine and positioned the light panels above my head.

The machine is able to emit four different light wavelengths, but for me, he used a combination of red and blue lights, which is why it produced a purple hue. Red helps to improve blood circulation and strengthens hair follicles, while blue soothes and balances the scalp’s pH levels.

There’s also yellow for sensitive, dry scalps, as well as white for very dry, sensitive, eczema-prone scalps. After that, he blow-dried and styled my hair so I could walk out feeling more confident than ever.

When the light therapy session was completed, I was brought back to the consultation room for a second scalp scan. From the images, my scalp looked cleaner, less congested, less irritated, and more refreshed compared to the initial scan.

The thorough cleanse sopped up most of the grease, so my scalp didn’t look as oily as before. The sensitive areas also appeared less red and inflamed too. Right after the treatment, my hair felt much softer and my scalp was less itchy.

Of course, I didn’t expect to see immediate hair growth over the next few days, but I did observe less hair fall in the shower and as I was styling my hair – impressive results that made me feel more hopeful of restoring my crowning glory. Since the Papilla DNA Activator treatment session, my hair has been easier to manage too, and I experience less hair breakage overall.

Compared to the hair loss products I tried, the Papilla DNA Activator was able to deliver what it promised. Having a professional consultation definitely adds value to the whole experience too. The staff at Papilla Haircare were also professional and patient, answering every question with a detailed response. They definitely reassured me and gave me more confidence in finding a solution to my hair woes.

The whole session took only about an hour, so it’s perfect for individuals with busy schedules. Although it is a clinical hair regrowth treatment, the procedure was pampering and felt more like a spa day. It was completely painless, and there was no downtime or side effects at all. I believe that I will be able to see an even more distinct improvement with more sessions.

You’ll have to head down for a session to experience the differences yourself!
