Everyone has their “YouTube made me buy it” moment at least once (or twice) in their life. It’s great if it works well for you, but then there are duds that just fail so badly that you regret ever getting influenced to purchase it in the first place.

While we are unable to review ALL the highly raved about products in the YouTube-sphere, we’ve picked out four products that we’re pretty sure you beauty junkies are familiar with. Read on to find out if the following products are worth the hype, or if you should just save up your money for something better!

1. L.A Girl Pro Concealers (SGD7)

The L.A Pro Concealers are well known amongst beauty YouTubers, beauty bloggers and makeup artists for its affordability, shade range, and effectiveness. At a price of SGD7, the quality you get is really impressive!

They also have colour correcting shades like yellow, lavender, green and orange. Orange and yellow helps to colour correct blue/purple undertones.

How I used them

I applied the L.A Girl Pro Concealer in Yellow to help counteract under eye circles and acne scarring. While orange works best, yellow is not a bad alternative! I also dotted some of Creamy Beige and Pure Beige to conceal the rest of my under eye area and any other discolouration.

You can also use the darker shades to do cream contouring.

The packaging can definitely be improved; it comes in a squeeze tube with a brush applicator, which is hard to control and I ended up dispensing more product than I needed.

DV Tip: Squeeze a little bit of product on the back of your hand first and use a concealer brush or your fingers to apply. Then, blend with a beauty sponge (i. e. Beauty Blender) for a seamless and natural finish.

Most importantly, blend it as soon as you apply it onto the skin! I left the product on my skin for awhile and it was quite tough to blend out afterwards.

“Should You Buy It” Rating: 5/5

Yes! If you’re on a budget, this is a great concealer to consider. For the price you pay, you get 8g of product that does the job and is easy to use. 8g might not seem like much, but you don’t need much of this product to get the job done. The L.A. Girl Pro Concealer is also a good option for makeup artists who need different shades of concealers for their clients.

2. Morphe 35O Eyeshadow Palette (SGD68)

morphe 35o 1

For over six months, this palette has been all the rage in the beauty YouTube-sphereJaclyn Hill, NikkieTutorials, MannyMUA, PatrickStarrr and every other talented beauty YouTubers have nothing but good things to say about it. So are they just saying it because most of them have affiliate codes?

Or is this palette really that good?

Short answer: Yes.

Now let me share with you why.

First, there are 35 incredibly wearable shades that complements Asian skin tones. Secondly, it has every shade you need to create any type of warm neutral eyeshadow look. You can create a look that’s really understated (for work or school) to something dramatic. It has a mix of matte and shimmer shades. This palette is essentially fool-proof.

The shadows are very pigmented, especially the shimmer and satin finish shades. The matte shades looked slightly patchy when I swatched with my finger, but when you use a brush to pick up the colour, it works just fine. A thing to note with the shadows in this palette is that it has quite a fair bit of fall out. To counter this,

a) Tap off any excess after dipping your brush into the shade
b) Do your eyeshadow first before your base makeup
c) For the shimmery and satin shades, apply using your finger

For this look:

Crease: #11 & #15
Brow bone: #1 & #8
Lid: #34 (I sprayed my brush with a facial mist before dipping it into the eyeshadow)
Outer V: #32

DV Tip: To make a shimmery and/or satin eyeshadow more intense, spritz some makeup setting spray or facial mist onto your brush before dipping it into the eyeshadow pan

“Should You Buy It” Rating: 4/5

Buy it if you’re absolutely love wearing warm eyeshadows! Deducted a point because of its size (not travel-friendly) and that it has tons of fallout – so you have to be careful!

3. Lime Crime Velve-tins Bundle (SGD49.90)

I’m pretty sure everyone has heard a lot about Lime Crime, but for today, we’ll just focus on the Velve-tins Bundle and if it’s worth a purchase (product wise)!

Limecrime 1

The set featured comes with three deluxe-sized liquid lipsticks, but from COMA Makeup, you can find many other shades of these the Velvetines Liquid Lipsticks. They’re available at SGD31.90 each.

I love lip products that smell good so I really appreciated that these liquid lipsticks smell like vanilla cupcakes! Since there were three shades in the set, three of us from the #VanitySquad tried it and all of us were impressed by how pigmented and long-lasting the Lime Crime Velvetines Liquid lipsticks are! One of the highlights of these lipsticks is that it is not overly drying. You can feel that while it’s matte on the lips, it doesn’t make your lips feel overly parched.

“Jingle” – Holiday Red Metallic

“Jingle”

The one I tried was the shade Jingle and it has a metallic finish so my lips looked like red foil wrapping paper! The “metallic” effect of the product wasn’t filled with chunky glitter. It has a unique sheen to it that I really liked.

“Should You Buy It” Rating: 5/5

Drama aside, the Lime Crime Velvetine Liquid Lipsticks are of really great quality. They smell good, look good, feel good on the lips, and are reasonably priced.

DV Tip: All three of us agreed that it’s very hard to remove with normal makeup removers! So soak a cotton pad with an oil based makeup remover (or even olive or coconut oil), leave the cotton pad on your lips for 15 – 20 seconds and gently wipe away the product.

4. Juvia’s Place Nubian Palette (SGD49)

Juvias place nubian palette 1

Another neutral eyeshadow palette lovers’ dream, the Juvia’s Place eyeshadow palettes caught the attention of YouTubers like NikkieTutorials and KathleenLights because of its pigmentation and versatility. The most prominent one has to be the Nubian palette, and it contains all neutral eyeshadows. It was inspired by Nefertiti, who was once the Queen of Egypt.

While doing the swatches for the eyeshadow palettes in this article, we realised that there were very similar shades to the Morphe palette. The shimmer shades in the Juvia’s Place Nubian Palette are fantastic. They swatch beautifully. Unlike the shimmer shades, the matte shades are relatively streaky.

Daily Vanity‘s Editor, Kristen Juliet, used the Juvia’s Place Nubian Palette to create this look:

For this look…

Lid: #1
Outer V: #8

Kristen Juliet says…

It’s really pigmented and VERY easy to blend. I didn’t even need to use a transition shade! I simply used my fingers to blend out the shades and they blended perfectly. The lid shade I used (#1) has a duo chrome effect. On the pan it looks like a regular peach shade, but when applied it looks baby pink, and when the light hits it at certain angles, it looks blue! However, as time goes by, the shimmer fades, leaving me with a matte looking eyeshadow instead. This can also be due to my relatively oily eyelids.

“Should You Buy It” Rating: 4.5/5

The colours are very wearable and it’s easy to use to create either a day or night look. If you’re new to eyeshadow and looking for that very first eyeshadow palette in your collection, this is it. It has only 12 colours which is an average amount you need. And it’s also decently sized too, which makes it easy to travel with!

BONUS: The palette is currently going at SGD38.50 on COMA Makeup instead of the original price of SGD49!

Verdict: Are these products worth the hype?

The ratings and swatches for the products speak for themselves – none of them went below three points. There are some cons to each of the products, but the pros certainly outweigh them and with patience and some practice, we’re pretty sure all of these products will not disappoint!
