In the world of injectables for firmer skin, recognisable names like Botox and Juvéderm have been the go-to for a long time now. The new and popular kid on the block? Rejuran, also known as Rejuran Healer, which falls into another category of injectables: skin boosters.

Unlike dermal fillers that add soft tissue to the face or Botox that freezes the facial muscles to lift the skin superficially, Rejuran works on a biochemical level to rejuvenate skin from within.

This skin booster stimulates collagen synthesis and skin tissue repair, paving the way for a bouncier, firmer, younger-looking glow–no fillers necessary.

Right now, Rejuran is hailed as a clock-turning treatment for ageing skin. Here is everything you need to know about it, including five aesthetic clinics you can get it at in Singapore.

What is Rejuran?

Rejuran is an FDA-approved skin booster that consists of polynucleotides (PN) extracted from salmon DNA.

PN has two major benefits for the skin. Firstly, it promotes the growth of new skin cells to replace old, dead cells, resulting in healthier-looking skin. Secondly, it increases the production of fibroblasts (connective tissue) and collagen, which improve the skin’s structure and elasticity.

The skin booster also works differently from dermal fillers as it doesn’t inject soft tissue into the face. Instead, it triggers the skin’s self-repair mechanism, making it a long-lasting solution for achieving firmer and smoother skin.

What Can Rejuran Treat?

Rejuran can be injected into various parts of the face – forehead, cheeks, jawline, chin – and neck for a firming, lifting, and smoothening effect on the skin.

While the skin booster can serve as a preventive treatment for those with a youthful complexion, it shows the most visible results on ageing skin. By stimulating collagen production, it firms the skin, reduces fine lines and wrinkles, and improves elasticity.

Thanks to its skin-reparative properties, it also treats damaged skin, fades scarring, and reduces the appearance of discolouration. The treatment also improves oiliness, dryness, and large pores.

In addition, this skin booster is commonly paired with various other treatments for longer-lasting or more pronounced results. It can be done in conjunction with lasers or subcision to fade acne scars. It can also be combined with HIFU, thread lifts, or other skin boosters to firm and lift the skin.

What is the Treatment Process?

The entire skin treatment usually takes around 90 minutes, including the time needed for the numbing cream to take effect.

  • Cleansing: Similar to other facial treatments, the treatment begins with a facial cleansing to remove any dirt or impurities from the skin’s surface.
  • Numbing cream application: Next, a numbing cream is applied to the selected treatment areas for about 30 minutes to ensure maximum comfort during the procedure.
  • Injections: Once the numbing cream has taken effect, tiny needles will be used to inject Rejuran Healer into the skin, during which the patient should feel minimal discomfort. Some patients describe the feeling as a tiny pinprick or an ant bite.
  • Skin cooling: In the last step, cryotherapy or LED light is applied to the face to cool the skin and encourage quick recovery.

Due to the treatment’s short duration and minimal downtime, it is even possible to get the skin booster during your lunch break on your work-from-home days.

What to Expect After a Rejuran Treatment?

Side effects

After a treatment, it is common for patients to experience small red bumps on their faces, which should subside within one to two days. Rarely do patients experience bruising, but it should resolve quickly even if it does occur.

Doctors may perform a facial massage at each injection site to aid recovery and minimise swelling. Massaging the face helps to “flatten” the bumps and ensures the even distribution of the skin booster solution across the treatment areas.

It also promotes blood circulation and assists the skin’s absorption of polynucleotides for optimal results.

Post-treatment care

In addition to the doctor’s initial massage, you might also be advised to perform facial massages for the first few days following the treatment.

Other post-treatment steps may include applying a recovery cream or gentle moisturiser to keep the skin hydrated, avoiding any makeup, and using a mild cleanser to prevent any irritation to the skin.

Do note that post-treatment care may vary from patient to patient depending on the patient’s skin condition and the doctor’s practice. You should follow your doctor’s specific instructions after the treatment to achieve the best possible results.

How Soon Can I See Results?

Call it a post-treatment glow: most patients notice that their skin looks more supple and smooth in the first week after their treatment.

This is because even though hyaluronic acid (HA) skin boosters are better known for quenching parched skin, Rejuran Healer also has hydrating properties. During this time, the small red bumps should also subside.

To experience the noticeable results boasted by Rejuran treatments, patients usually will have to wait for two to four weeks.

In weeks two to four, collagen synthesis and skin tissue repair generally take effect, resulting in firmer and bouncier skin. Patients may also begin to see a softening of fine lines and wrinkles, as well as a fading of acne scars and pigmentation.

The skin booster’s full effects are usually reaped after four to six weeks. The skin should look tighter, more lifted, and with an improved youthful-looking glow.

How Many Treatments Are Required?

Depending on your skin condition, your doctor might recommend one to four initial treatments spaced about four weeks apart.

Unfortunately, while the results are long-lasting, they’re not permanent. After the initial round of treatments has been completed, follow-up treatments are generally scheduled every six to 12 months to maintain the results.
