Balayage has been the order of the day when it comes to hair-colouring for a long time. This colouring technique gives a gradual and natural-looking look that is highly favoured by the well-groomed. Speaking to Vintage Studio recently, we found out that there’s an emerging hair-colouring technique that is gaining popularity: Deltayage.

If you’ve been following the hairstyling scene, there’s probably one hair salon that you would certainly have heard of. We’re talking about Vintage Studio, which has seven branches in Singapore and one in Johor.

The winner of several awards, including the Top 100 Singapore Excellence Award, Singapore Prestige Brand Award, Young Entrepreneur Award, and Singapore Prestige Enterprise Award, Vintage Studio is also often seen at large-scale events.

Its stylists have been the hair maestros behind events like Manhunt, Miss Singapore, Singapore Fashion Week, and Star Awards, just to name a few.

What is Deltayage all about?

Vintage Studio compares two other popular highlighting techniques with Deltayage to help us understand this trend better:

Ombré: This features two tones and little blending transition, so you’d observe very obvious hard lines.
Balayage: More blending effects compared to ombré. Two or multiple tones are used. However, when there are more colours used, it gets harder to blend evenly.
Deltayage: An even more 3D effect to the overall results compared to Balayage. Unlimited colours can be used to create a beautiful blending effect. The colour chosen is based on the client’s complexion and skin tone to bring out his/her best features. The transition technique makes sure that the blending is seamless. Deltayage allows stylists to have a more creative way of hair colouring that focuses more on the technique of colour blending.

Vintage Studio shares that the beauty of Deltayage is that despite using many different colours in one look, the result isn’t necessarily loud and can even be work-appropriate if the right colours are picked.

“Our customers like the Deltayage technique because it offers a broader selection of colours for them. It works with any haircut and style, and all hair lengths, so practically everyone is suitable for it – yes, even men with short hair! We would liken the process to drawing a rainbow – instead of using only seven colours, we use even more to offer a blending of shades in between the core seven shades to achieve a seamlessly beautiful effect”, a representative from Vintage Studio shared with us.

Deltayage: How does it look?

A picture paints a thousand words, the best way to understand how the Deltayage hair-colouring result is like would be to actually witness it for ourselves. We shadowed one of Vintage Studio’s customers, Kayleigh, during her appointment to understand the process and result better.

Vintage Studio is known for its personalised consultation with its customers in order to understand their needs and recommend the best look and colour for them. They use only the latest hair colouring technology from L’Oreal Professionnel and other internationally well-known brands for their hair colouring services. Kayleigh’s appointment was at Vintage Studio’s 313@somerset outlet.

I visited one of Vintage Studio’s outlets, located at 313@someset

A consultation was done and a style was recommended to Kayleigh. The stylist told Kayleigh that the colours chosen would flatter her skin tone so she would look more radiant and make her features appear more prominent.

There was also a head massage during the hair-washing session that was extremely relaxing.

The colouring process was done meticulously and we couldn’t wait for the magic that was the new hair colour to unveil before our eyes. (Stay till the end of the article to see the before-and-after photos!)

Don’t forget scalp therapy

But before the big reveal, the stylist Yves recommended Vitas Pro Scalp Therapy a scalp detox treatment to Kayleigh. He said that this is great for balancing the pH level of the scalp from the chemicals used during the hair-colouring process.

At the same time, the scalp is moisturised to maintain its youth. Did you know that ageing actually starts from your scalp? Your scalp is after all an extension of your facial skin!

This treatment also helps to remove the toxins and oil build-up around the scalp, increasing blood circulation and nutrient supply to the follicles. These benefits keep the damage that the chemical process had on the hair to a minimal level.

The therapy involved lymphatic massage, which not only help in removing toxins from the scalp, relax muscles that are tensed from stress, and of course, allow the goodness from the hair products penetrate more deeply into the follicles.

Kayleigh also did an advanced Vitas Hair treatment right after the scalp therapy, so both the therapy and treatment could work simultaneously to deliver the best hair care result.

Kayleigh said that her hair felt light and scalp more refreshed after the treatment and it also felt incredibly soft – something that she doesn’t usually experience after a hair-colouring session.

If you’re a little tired of Balayage and are ready to experiment with more looks, then Deltayage may just be the style you can consider. We like how Kayleigh’s hair turned out – it doesn’t just look chic, but also flattered her complexion and features.

Most importantly, Kayleigh said that she was pleased with the results, and we think that is the most important comment for any any hairstylist to hear!
