A glance at her photo and you would think the 52-year-old model is 30. Known as the “Lady of Eternal Youth” in Japan, Masako Mizutani has made waves for her youthful looks and taut skin despite her age.
Lucky for us, she’s divulged her secrets to her flawless complexion. We’ve gathered all of her beauty secrets that she’s shared in her books and during interviews, so you can attain smooth and supple skin too!
1. Moisture is key
As you may have guessed, skincare plays a huge role in Mizutani’s perfect skin. She states in her widely praised book that maintaining moisture levels in the skin is essential, and uses a facial mask every other day. Her favourite DIY mask? Mixing banana and honey together to form a paste, which gives her skin that coveted glow.
She suggests using creams with vitamins E and C in them to keep the skin youthful and elastic. She also recommends using rice water to wash your face instead of regular water. The minerals and nutrients from rice are known to promote fairer, glowy skin.

2. Eat your vegetables
The model firmly believes in the “you are what you eat” mantra. Another secret behind her skin that she shared on her Facebook page is her strict vegetarian diet and drinking less alcohol, which is shown to really dry out your skin.
Choose to eat balanced and small meals frequently, as well as food that is fresher and healthier!
3. Use sun protection
Ask any beauty guru about the secret behind youthful skin and they’re more than likely to tell you it’s sun protection. Don’t forget to apply a generous layer of sunscreen every time you leave the house for skin like Mizutani’s! Read all about the dos and don’ts when it comes to sunscreen here.

4. Hop onto the gua sha trend
Trends often go out of style, but this one may just stay for good. While gua sha is traditionally used for massaging purposes, it’s recently been praised for its blood circulation-boosting and lifting effects, which gives skin a glowier and more youthful look.

5. Use makeup and skincare according to your age
According to Masako Mizutani, you should be switching out your skincare and makeup style as you age. While experimenting with edgy makeup is perfectly fine in your youth, try and stick to subtler, peachy or pink coloured makeup as you age for a youthful and vibrant look.
Likewise, you can start opting for anti-ageing creams to reduce fine lines and wrinkles.
