Always Prep Your Skin

Before starting your base makeup routine, make sure your skin is prepped to perfection. After all, starting off with dry skin is going to leave you with patchy and flaky foundation over time!

To ensure that her base makeup sits perfectly, Haemin soaks cotton pads with toner or a hydrating essence, then leaves it on her skin for about a minute to let the products sink into the skin.

After that, she gently wipes the cotton pad over her entire face. This helps to soften and hydrate the skin, while simultaneously wiping away excess sebum, so that your base makeup will adhere to your skin perfectly.

Then, she applies moisturiser to lock in the moisture, and pats it into her skin to ensure that it absorbs properly.

Remember to blend thoroughly without missing out areas like the jaw, or your contour might not sit well later on!

Colour Correct for an Even Skin Tone

As part of her prep routine, Haemin also makes sure to use a colour corrector to even out her skin tone.

Colour correcting with complementary colours might seem intimidating at first, but it’s incredibly effective for giving you a flawless skin tone!

Haemin shares that if your skin is sensitive and reddens easily, you can look for a sunscreen or primer with a slight green tint to neutralise the redness and brighten your skin, giving it a natural glow.

Apply Foundation With the Right Techniques

Haemin demonstrates how to properly apply liquid foundation, with techniques that are especially useful for those with dry skin!

She focuses on applying a thicker layer in the centre of her face before evenly spreading it outwards, to areas like her forehead and chin.

To apply the product evenly and effectively, she uses a foundation brush with dense bristles, as it helps the foundation get into her pores for a seamless look.

Next, she uses a makeup sponge to blend out any patchy areas, patting her skin to diffuse the product.

Haemin suggests that you use a bit of force when you pat with a makeup sponge, just enough to hear the sound of the sponge on your skin.

This will serve as a mini facial massage, promoting blood circulation in order to reduce any bloating.

Brighten With Concealer

If you want to brighten up your complexion, make sure to use a concealer in a lighter shade before your base is completely dry, so that your concealer will easily blend into your foundation!

Haemin suggests going for a concealer that’s just half a shade lighter than the rest of your base, for a more natural look.

She gently pats a thin layer of concealer into the centre of her face, where she usually applies her blush, to create a radiant complexion.

Make sure to blend your concealer by patting it in instead of dragging! By avoiding tugging on your skin, your concealer will sit smoothly without creasing.

For detailed application, Haemin personally likes to use a concealer pen, as it offers greater precision.

However, if you’re covering uneven areas of skin, such as a stubborn pimple or scar, a cream or liquid concealer is a better choice!

Set Your Makeup To Last All Day

After putting in all this effort to create a flawless complexion, you’ll want to set your makeup perfectly, so that it doesn’t budge throughout the day.

To make sure your makeup stays in place, Haemin suggests using a translucent loose powder in the centre of your face and gently pressing it into your skin with your brush.

For a more glowy look, lightly spray your favourite setting spray sfter applying powder, holding the spray half an arm’s length away from your face.

After the setting spray dries down, it’ll form a thin film that helps to lock your makeup in all day!
