Though they’ve been around for a long time, we’ve yet to find something as versatile and affordable as Vaseline’s petroleum jelly. This semisolid jelly-like substance is made from a combination of mineral oils and waxes, and has been counted on for years to help seal in moisture and heal skin.

It’s often used as a moisturising lip balm, a remedy for small cuts and bruises, and even a makeup remover when you’re in a pinch. Here are some other Vaseline skincare hacks you might not have heard of before, as shared by TikTok user @Seewyen!

Use Vaseline to remove knuckle hair

Hair removal is always a tricky process — razor burns, accidental cuts, or an improper job done, the list goes on.

Perhaps the most important rule of all when it comes to shaving is to provide proper lubrication. If you’ve run out of shaving cream and have some Vaseline on hand, you can use it instead!

Rub a pea-sized amount of it onto your knuckles before going in with a standard razor. According to the TikTok creator, this helps prevent unwanted shaving effects like enlarged pores or the risk of hair growing out thicker than before.

Despite its current presence on TikTok, shaving with Vaseline isn’t new.

In fact, here’s a newspaper clipping from the 1890s, which documents a pharmacist’s experience using this convenient trick.

Use Vaseline to create a homemade body scrub

Despite our best efforts at moisturising our skin daily, dry and flakey patches are somehow inevitable. Thankfully, you can create your very own DIY body scrub with just two simple ingredients: a jar of Vaseline petroleum jelly and some finely ground sugar.

Mix equal parts of Vaseline and sugar, and apply it anywhere your skin may need a thorough exfoliation, such as your elbow or feet.

If you’d prefer a more moisturising formula and thinner texture, you can also add in a few drops of almond, vitamin E, or olive oil. This recipe also reportedly works great on flakey lips, so feel free to give it a go as a lip scrub!

Use Vaseline to remove the dead skin around your finger nails

Pesky dead skin cells around your nail beds can be an eyesore and ruin our DIY manicures. For a quick solution, simply rub some Vaseline onto your fingertips and leave it on for 10 minutes.

Then, wipe it off using a piece of tissue paper and voila! This will naturally dissolve away the dead skin cells, leaving you with hydrated and polished fingertips.
