The latest Japanese skincare trend? Enzyme cleansers

More commonly known to Japanese women as “enzyme washes”, enzyme cleansers are designed to tackle skincare problems that traditional cleansers aren’t able to target. For instance, while traditional cleansers are able to remove impurities and dirt from your skin’s surface, it is unable to get rid of keratin plugs, formed from hardened sebum, that are lodged within the pores.

It is extremely important to get rid of these keratin plugs because they are the main culprit to skin concerns like dull complexion enlarged pores, and blemishes. A good enzyme cleanser, however, resolves this problematic issue for you. It is able to break down pesky keratin plugs so that your skin can remain smooth and blemish-free.

What are the “enzymes” in the formula?

Leading Japanese beauty brand ORBIS has launched ORBIS Powder Wash +, which is made up of not just one, but two enzymes: Protease and Lipase. The former is a protein-dissolving enzyme, while the latter is a sebum-dissolving enzyme.

Now, you have to understand that while keratin is made up of sebum, accumulated keratin comes in the form of protein grime. Having both Protease and Lipase in the formula means that both old keratin and other sebum components will be targeted so that you can have it all covered.

So what happen to these keratin plugs when you wash your face with an efficient enzyme cleanser? The enzymes are broken down into smaller pieces and as you rinse off with water, the broken down keratin plugs are removed as well.

On top of the effectiveness in cleansing and removing keratin plugs, ORBIS Powder Wash + is also well-loved because of the firm creamy foam it produces that gently cleanses skin without irritating it. At the same time, it is also fortified with rich ingredients such as Collagen, Hyaluronic Acid, and Royal Jelly, all of them known for their ability to improve moisture and firmness in skin.

How to use ORBIS Powder Wash +?

1. Pour out an appropriate amount of the powder onto palm and lather with lukewarm water.
2. Massage gently onto damp skin.
3. Rinse thoroughly.

The frequency of usage is dependent on your skin’s condition. If you’re experiencing concerns like blackheads, whiteheads, and enlarged pores, use it three to four times a week, in place of your regular facial wash. But if you have normal skin and want to prevent excessive keratin plug build up, use it one to two times a week, in place of your regular facial wash. You can use your regular cleanser on other days.

ORBIS Powder Wash + retails at SGD25 and is available at all ORBIS stores and counters, which are located at Robinsons The Heeren, Robinsons Raffles City, Bishan Junction 8, Westgate, and Plaza Singapura. You can also retrieve samples of the product at these locations. Visit the ORBIS website or Facebook page for more information.
