Remember the good ol’ days when face masks were simple DIY concoctions that you simply scooped out of a jar, lathered onto your face, and washed off after? Yeah, neither do we.

These days, the sheer variety and types of face masks out there are staggering, with numerous brands constantly reinventing the product by putting a fresh new spin on it. There are bubble masks, thermal masks, and even masks that make you look like a Power Ranger.

Don’t believe us? See them for yourself!

We’ve compiled a fun little list of the 10 prettiest and “ugliest” face masks you can find. Be warned: some of these are just downright bizarre.

Prettiest Masks:

1. GlamGlow Glitter Mask

With GlamGlow’s Glitter Mask, you can truly shine bright like a diamond, all whilst pampering your skin! The mask comes with glitter, sparkles, and tiny stars that are guaranteed to make you look like a otherworldly cosmic goddess. Prime #maskingselfie opportunities aside, the mask also helps tighten the appearance of your skin, leaving your face looking refreshed and rejuvenated all day.

While GlamGlow is stocked at Singapore’s Sephora stores and Sephora.sg, the GlamGlow Glitter Mask is only available at Sephora.com and retails at USD69 (~SGD92.87).

2. Sand & Sky Brilliant Skin Purifying Pink Clay Mask

Millennial pink is all the rage these days, so why not get a face mask in the shade to match, too? The Sand & Sky Brilliant Skin Purifying Pink Clay Mask comes in a pretty, pearly pink that is practically luminous in photos, so don’t be surprised if your follower count takes a leap after you post up a mid-mask selfie.

The 4-in-1 treatment also claims to help tighten pores, boost radiance, and protect against damage caused by pollution. Consider us sold.

The Sand & Sky Brilliant Skin Purifying Pink Clay Mask can be purchased from their site and retails at SGD69.90.

3. Dermovia Lace Your Face Facial Masks

If you love a little lace in your wardrobe, you’ll adore the Demovia Lace Your Face Facial Masks. Not only do they look absolutely avant-garde and chic, they also feature compression technology that helps address a variety of skin concerns, such as dry and tired skin or dark spots. As of now, they come in four different varieties: Brightening, Rejuvenating, Hydrating, and Clarifying.

The Dermovia Lace Your Face Facial Masks can be purchased from Nordstrom and retails at SGD79.67 for a pack of four.

4. Peter Thomas Roth 24k Golden Mask

Who says you can’t look like a million bucks in your bathrobe? Slather on an even coat of Peter Thomas Roth’s 24k Golden Mask and you’ll be good to go. The gold, glittery hue gives you magnificent glow and sheen, and there’s just something so luxurious about applying such a decadent shade onto your skin. And in case you were wondering, yes, the product actually contains 24k worth of pure gold, with it helping to lift, firm, brighten and smooth your skin.

The Peter Thomas Roth 24k Golden Mask is available at all Sephora stores and retails at SGD159.

5. Mamonde Petal Purifying Bubble Mask

You can now look as pretty as a peach with Mamonde’s Petal Purifying Bubble Mask! The soft, pale pink helps give a nice pop of colour against your skin, with the added benefit of it cleansing and moisturizing your skin. Not just that, it even smells like roses, so you’ll smell as good as you look. Sounds like the best of both worlds, if you ask us.

The Mamonde Petal Purifying Bubble Mask retails at SGD28 and is available at all Mamonde counters and its flagship store at Ngee Ann City.

“Ugliest” Masks:

1. Elizavecca Milky Piggy Carbonated Bubble Clay Mask

Using this mask definitely makes it seem as if you’ve come down with a wicked case of Greyscale from a Game of Thrones episode (yikes!) but rest assured, this charcoal bubble mask does more favours for your skin than harm. It cleanses, exfoliates, and unclogs pores all at once, with the micro-bubbles produced bubbling off dead skin cells and lifting pore-clogging dirt and sebum right off your skin.

Sure, you’ll bear an unfortunate resemblance to Shireen Baratheon, but at least your skin will thank you for it after.

The Elizavecca Milky Piggy Carbonated Bubble Clay Mask can be purchased from Lazada and retails at SGD49.60.

2. The Face Shop Character Masks

#MaskMadness Day 18: Fun hosted by @maskaddict & @mapletreeblog . The Face Shop Gudetama Brightening Character Mask . The theme is fun but I just straight up look scary in this mask 😂. The mask is a soft thin cotton material that fits surprisingly well. The essence smells like a cross between the Elizabeth Arden Green Tea Perfume and a Johnson & Johnson Baby Cologne. The smell is just pure nostalgia for me. ❤ There is about ~1/2 tsp of extra gel-like essence that absorbed well into the skin. I was able to wear this mask for about 20 minutes and while I did I did not notice any brightening, my skin was plump and hydrated. It was fun to wear this and I would love to try other #charactermasks from @thefaceshop.official, especially #kakaofriends variety. Not sure if this is still available in Face Shop stores, but it is still available on @amazon and @ebay. . What is your favorite Kakao Friends character? . . . . . #asianskincare #rasianbeauty #asianbeautyproducts #koreanbeauty #kbeauty #asiancosmetics #koreanskincare #instaskincare #instabeauty #koreancosmetic #kbeautyaddict #skincarejunkie #skincareobsessed #skincareaddict #skincarediary #maskaddict #maskselfie #igers_sanfrancisco #igsf #abbloggersofinstagram #gudetama #pinayigers #sheetmask #sheetmaskselfie #asianbeauty #bblogger #beautyblogger

Now, these are a little hit or miss depending on the character of your choice, but there’s no doubt that there are some that look downright bizarre when applied to people’s faces. It’s all in good fun, though— and it’ll definitely bring a smile to your followers’ faces (and yours!), if anything. Besides, it’s physically impossible for anyone to look glamorous with a pig snout, so just make a silly face and go with it.

The Face Shop Character Masks are available at all The Face Shop outlets and retails at SGD3.90 per sheet.

3. Dr Jart + Lover Rubber Mask

Out of ideas for a great Halloween costume? Just pop one of these babies on, and it’ll be sure to scare the living daylights out of someone.

But seriously, unfortunate resemblance to a serial killer’s mask aside, the Dr Jart + Lover Rubber Mask actually does wonders for your skin. There are four different versions, as of now, that helps solve common skin concerns such as dryness, lack of elasticity, enlarged pores, and excess oil. Once the actual formula is applied on the skin, the rubber mask is placed on top of it to seal in all that goodness for glowing, radiant skin. Sign us up!

Dr Jart+ Lover Rubber Masks are available at all Sephora and retails at SGD18.

4. Hanacure All-In-One Facial

Who needs a time machine when Hanacure’s All-In-One Facial can take you about thirty years into the future? It also gives you what appears to be peeling, sun-damaged skin with wrinkles to top it off, so you get a little scare every time you pass a mirror. Taking off the mask, however, reveals tighter, brighter-looking skin that will have your face feeling refreshed and revitalised. Celebrities, including Drew Barrymore, are fans, and for good reason.

Hanacure All-In-One Facial can be purchased from their site and retails at USD29 (~SGD39)

5. Charlotte Tilbury Revolutionary Instant Magic Facial Dry Sheet Mask

Am I doing this right @ctilburymakeup ? Cause it FEELS right.

This mask bears an eerie resemblance to Michael Myers of the Halloween movies, which is definitely not a look you want to debut in public. Still, it has a unique dry texture that promises to deliver red-carpet-ready skin in just five minutes, which certainly sounds ideal.

The fabric is infused with tiny vectors of Charlotte Tilbury’s Magic Actives, featuring vitamins, floral extracts, peptides, and oils and butters– leaving it to seep into your skin with no fuss or mess!

The Charlotte Tilbury Revolutionary Instant Magic Facial Dry Sheet Mask can be purchased from Beautylish and retails at USD80 for a pack of four.
