When it comes to skincare, the glowing complexions of K-pop stars have long been a source of envy and admiration. The flawless, dewy skin of idols seems almost otherworldly, leaving us wondering how they achieve such radiance amidst their hectic schedules and demanding performances.

The answer, it seems, lies in a well-kept Korean skincare secret: Sioris. At least, we now know that it’s the go-to skincare brand for K-pop groups and artists under the prestigious JYP Entertainment label, such as 2PM, Twice, Stray Kids, and Itzy.

And now, this coveted skincare brand has finally landed on the virtual shelves of Sephora Singapore, bringing with it the promise of simplicity and healthy, happy skin for all.

Behind the popular Korean organic skincare brand

Sioris, a name that fuses “simple” and “original”, celebrates the power of natural ingredients and simplicity. In an industry that advocates elaborate 10-step skincare routines and a myriad of products, Sioris stands out by embracing a minimalist approach that prioritises quality over quantity.

Their products are a testament to the belief that less is more – a refreshing departure from the overwhelming array of options on the market.

Sioris’ founder, Isaac Han

Amidst the excitement surrounding Sioris’ much-anticipated launch at Sephora Singapore, we had the privilege of sitting down with the founder of the brand, Isaac Han. A passionate advocate for simple yet effective skincare, Isaac shared his insights into Sioris’ journey, philosophy, and exciting prospects with J.Y. Park.

The founder started out as a graphic designer in Korea, where he first worked at a cosmetics company. This experience piqued his interest in natural and organic cosmetics, and he gravitated towards products from Europe, Australia, and the US.

Identifying that gap in the Korean beauty sphere, he set himself a new challenge. “I wanted to create a local organic brand with good design and branding, which is how I founded Sioris,” he shared.

Of course, starting a beauty brand from scratch posed its own set of unique challenges. Thankfully, Isaac found a massive farm in South Korea that didn’t use any chemicals on their produce, perfectly aligning with Isaac’s vision for the organic label. “In the beginning, the problem [was that we couldn’t] predict the quantity, but now we know how much of the ingredients we need for quality control,” he recalled.

Sioris’ commitment to nature doesn’t stop at its ingredients; it extends to its packaging as well – just as thoughtful as its formulations. The brand places a strong emphasis on sustainability, using eco-friendly, recyclable materials such as PET/PP plastics and paper outer packaging.

JYP Entertainment’s investment in Sioris

When asked about the brand’s close association with JYP Entertainment, Isaac emphasised that Sioris’ partnership with these influential figures goes beyond mere endorsements.

It all began when Korean artist and producer Park Jin-young (who goes by J.Y. Park or JYP) found a way to manage his atopic dermatitis (eczema): by going organic with his diet and skincare.

In an interview with YouTuber and founder of Krave Beauty, Liah Yoo, J.Y. Park mentioned, “The way I approached cosmetics… It didn’t come from the beauty aspect of it, but the health aspect of it. I was sick and tired of scratching myself.”

“He’s visited doctors and has been on medication, but nothing worked,” Isaac added. “Then he started to eat organic food and use organic skincare products. He did it for one year, and his skin started getting better.”

Back in 2010, J.Y. used to purchase organic beauty products from Wholefoods when he lived in Manhattan, but he had to seek alternatives when he returned to Korea. “When I used Sioris, I was shocked. It was so good. I think it totally had a competitive edge, and I wanted to invest and introduce it to the world,” J.Y. told Liah.

“He was looking for a good organic beauty brand he could invest in, and he found our brand and reached out to us,” Isaac confirmed. “We have meetings regularly, and he’d suggest ideas for new skincare products. We send testers to him, and he’ll give us his feedback.”

“Our vision is still organic skincare, but we want to show customers that it’s not just about skincare; it’s about health and lifestyle,” he lets on. “As you know, we support JYP Entertainment and their artists, so we send them our products regularly [and] most of them use our products.”

“The number one product that made me decide to invest was the mist,” J.Y. announced. Indeed, the Time is Running Out Mist is a cult-favourite product and a true embodiment of Sioris’ philosophy.

This multifunctional mist is not just a mere spritz; it’s a toner, mist, and serum all rolled into one. This hydrating elixir taps on the goodness of 36% seasonal yuzu water from Gohung, Korea. The abundant vitamin C in yuzu enhances skin clarity and imparts radiance.

The unique bi-phase formula strikes the perfect balance, infusing your skin with lasting moisture while locking it in with a touch of oil (10% macadamia seed oil and 2% jojoba seed oil, to be exact), ensuring your skin stays hydrated and glowing for an impressive 24 hours.

Like a soothing milk, it effortlessly sweeps away makeup and impurities. What sets this milk cleanser apart is its star ingredient – a generous 62% of organic seasonal yuzu water. Unlike traditional purified water, this unique infusion is sourced from organic farming, and it won’t irritate your eyes.

Enriched with plant-based, mild surfactants and hydrating plant oils and extracts, it pampers your skin as it washes away impurities. Plus, it’s a fantastic option for a deep pore cleanse, saving you the hassle of a double cleanse routine.

“Koreans like to use strong cleansers because they want to remove everything. This cleanser not only removes dirt, but it also keeps your skin’s moisture barrier intact,” Isaac advocates. “After using this cleanser, you don’t have to add many steps. Only one toner and one moisturiser – that’s it.”
