Founder Marissa Shipman read book after book on cosmetic formulas before cooking up her own makeup recipes in the kitchen.
She later hired a chemist, which was how the Plump Your Pucker Lip Balm – theBalm’s very first product – was created, with a delicious formula of beeswax, shea butter, and castor oil.
For several years, lip balms were all that theBalm offered, but today, the brand has a fabulous selection of apricot blush palettes, creamy lip stains, as well as glamorous highlight and eyeshadow compacts.
Is theBalm a good brand?
TheBalm’s makeup is not just good, it’s really good.
If you’re thinking green packaging, then you’re on the right track. Yes, theBalm’s palettes, made with tin and paper materials, are 100% recyclable. They also skip the mirrors and magnets, so all consumers need to do is to push out the pan from the compact to recycle the tin and paper parts separately.
For their plastic tubes, the brand integrates postconsumer materials (i.e. recycled components) to close the recycling loop.
TheBalm is also a cruelty-free brand, and one that keeps harmful parabens and talc out of their cosmetic recipes. Not all of theBalm’s products are vegan, though. However, you can find a good selection of 100% vegan makeup offered too.
