What she’s protecting: The business she’s put her heart and soul into
Founder of online boutique Ohvola, Lucinda Zhou, is also an “accidental blogger”.
“It didn’t occur to me that I could be a blogger. One of the reasons I started my blog was to provide a platform where customers of my fashion label could preview my upcoming designs through my daily outfits. It gradually picked up from there, and I’m really thankful for some customers who have followed me through the years,” she says.
The entrepreneur-and-blogger has a busy schedule that she eventually learnt to manage.
“I used to work very late into the night and it took a toll on my health. After that, I make it a point to set working hours and allocate time specifically for drafting blog posts during the weekends. I have also learnt the importance of striking a balance in everything that I do and to take things in my stride,” she says.
Another challenge the entrepreneur has is the fear of sun damage on her skin. “I spend a lot of my time commuting and I know that constant exposure to the sun is going to be detrimental to my skin in the long run. I always make sure I wear adequate sunscreen so my skin is properly protected,” she shares.
When asked for her tips to choosing a good sunscreen, she recommends something “lightweight”. “Light-textured sunscreens are the best because they feel like they’re ‘barely-there’, and are comfortable to wear in Singapore’s hot and humid weather,” Lucinda advises. She adds that light-textured sunscreens also don’t interfere with her makeup.
Her favourite sunscreen of the moment is the La Roche Posay Anthelios Ultra Light Fluid, which she says is among the lightest-textured sunscreens she has tried, despite its high coverage of SPF50+ and protection against UVA rays.
Spending most of her waking hours on her business, Lucinda says if one day she were to pass the leadership of her company to someone else, she hopes that she would be able to leave a legacy as “someone who has positively impacted lives and made a difference”.
This, and the satisfaction that she derives from seeing her business grow drives her. “I like that I have the flexibility of setting my own goals and responsibilities, and while my job is demanding, it is very rewarding at the same time,” she shares.
The style influencer gives her advice to looking great effortlessly, even if you have a busy schedule like she does:
- Wear clothes that flatter your body shape. Looking put-together empowers you to take on your day with confidence.
- Having great skin is something I am constantly working towards. When your skin is healthy and taken care of, it makes it easier to focus on the many tasks you would need to accomplish.
- Enjoy what you do. Everything else will fall in place when you are happy.
