Seventy per cent of our body is made up of water. As such, it’s probably not surprising that as the largest organ of the body, our skin requires sufficient water in order for it to look its best.

Many skin woes we face are actually caused by dehydration in our skin – although we may not realise it. Dehydrated skin may not always have the typical symptoms of dryness and roughness. Your face may still be oily on the surface, but pores become more pronounced, skin looks dull, or makeup doesn’t stay on for long. If you’ve noticed any of these symptoms, it is likely that your skin is actually crying out in thirst.

Dehydration is a common problem among those in their 20s. The hormonal changes in their body as they enter from their teens into adulthood, and new challenges and stress at work can cause skin’s natural function to break down.

If you haven’t been looking into hydration as a key concern in your skincare routine, it’s time to re-look at the products you are currently using – having skin that’s well-hydrated ensures that your skin continue to look healthy even when you get older.

Why does our skin become dehydrated?

Healthy skin is made up of well-developed structures within the skin that are able to retain moisture and prevent it from escaping. And of these structures, intercellular lipids are among the most important in maintaining the skin’s barrier function.

What are intercellular lipids?

Imagine a cling wrap that’s covering a glass of water – the cling wrap is able to prevent water from the glass from evaporating. Intercellular lipids act like that cling wrap on top of the glass of water; it protects and retains the moisture within our skin, to keep our skin hydrated and plump.

However, factors such as long hours spent in air-conditioned environment, stress, and pollution can cause lamellar structure distortion. Instead of acting as a good protection of moisture, spaces start to appear between the cells.

These gaps cause moisture to escape from our skin – just like how a cling wrap with holes will no longer be able to prevent water in the glass from escaping.

What can you do about it?

Unfortunately, drinking more water or even applying a good moisturiser to replenish hydration level in our skin aren’t going to solve the problem at its roots. You’ll need to fill the gaps of the lamellar structure, so that natural moisture from your skin can no longer be lost.

Japanese researchers have found an innovative ingredient that can do just that. Called the Moisture Magnet AQ, it has affinity with the intercellular lipids in our skin and is drawn to the gaps between them. Filling in these gaps, it helps skin to once again retain moisture within itself.

On top of this, its strong attraction powers further hold on to abundant moisture in the skin, forming a reservoir within skin to relieve dryness from within.

Just 3 steps to reverse the signs of dehydration

The Moisture Magnet AQ can be found in the reformulated ORBIS AQUAFORCE skincare line. Already a well-loved range, its new formula is now fortified with Moisture Magnet AQ to solve skin’s dehydration at its roots. You’ll also love that the new ORBIS AQUAFORCE delivers a refreshing and lightweight texture that doesn’t feel greasy or sticky at all.

The AQUAFORCE skincare range consists of three products:

1. AQUAFORCE MILD WASH: This oil-free cleanser lathers up easily to form dense whipped foam that can remove grime and impurities gently, leaving your skin feeling soft and hydrated.

2. AQUAFORCE LOTION: This product replenishes your skin’s moisture and helps cells to be locked in a pool of moisture. Fortified with Pure Aqua Essence, it helps skin nurture a healthy corneal layer to prevent moisture loss, so that you can resolve the problem of dehydration at its roots. Your skin will appreciate its lightweight, non-sticky texture especially in Singapore’s humid weather.

3. AQUAFORCE MOISTURE: This product forms a protective layer to lock in moisture and prevent moisture loss so you can enjoy long-lasting hydration throughout the day.
