Whether you’re a skincare enthusiast or not, chances are you would have heard of vitamin C. The ingredient is certainly not a new kid on the block but certain vitamin C derivatives have given the ingredient a kind of bad rap due to their volatility and notoriety for quickly spoiling into a useless brown juice.

But don’t be put off by vitamin C just yet because it is one of the best ingredients to get your skin back in the game as the antioxidant-rich ingredient is capable of maintaining your skin’s youthfulness while protecting it from further damage.

Here’s why many skincare lovers swear by vitamin C, one of the best-researched skincare ingredients.

Benefits of vitamin C for your skin

Combats ageing

Vitamin C is often lauded for its antioxidant properties but what you may not know is that it offers various other skin-healing benefits too, which can prevent premature ageing of your skin.

When used topically, the highly acidic ingredient can encourage the skin to heal itself by enhancing its natural production of elastin as well as collagen, the protein found naturally in your body that keeps your skin firm and supple.

How to ensure that your skin is receiving a fair amount of vitamin C? Keep reading to find out!

Boosts collagen

As mentioned above, using topical skincare with vitamin C can help increase natural collagen production in your body. It’s also the reason why many anti-ageing skincare products contain healthy amounts of vitamin C.

With a daily dose of pure vitamin C, you’ll be able to notice a drastic improvement in key age markers such as loss of elasticity, fine lines, and wrinkles.

Repairs skin

Besides boosting collagen, vitamin C is one of the good guys that provide skin repair too. It does so by promoting healthy cell turnover, which can help improve your complexion that has been marred by prolonged sun exposure and pollution.

In addition to treating photodamage, vitamin C can also repair your skin by minimising the look scars too.

Hydrates skin

This may be news to some but vitamin C is a highly hydrating ingredient.  Magnesium ascorbyl phosphate, one of the most prominent derivatives of vitamin C, is said to have an extremely positive and hydrating effect on your skin.

This is crucial as our skin, like any other organ, needs to be hydrated to function effectively – and vitamin C decreases the chances of transepidermal water loss, allowing your skin to retain moisture.

Reverses sun damage

Another wonderful plus point about vitamin C? It can help restore your original skin tone while maintaining a healthy skin barrier.

That’s because it is a potent antioxidant that helps your skin retain its plump texture by soaking up free radicals and preventing oxidative damage that results from UV light, other environmental stressors, smoking, inadequate sleep, poor eating habits, as well as a sedentary lifestyle.

On top of that, here’s another bonus that you can get from using vitamin C skincare: combining it with a broad-spectrum sunscreen that protects your skin well against UVA rays has been found to be more effective at neutralising free radical damage from sun exposure than just using sunscreen alone!

In other words, each product is good on its own but even better together as the combination essentially multiple their benefits for the skin.

Brightens dullness

Being one of the most well-researched skincare ingredients out there, you’ll find plenty of studies to support that vitamin C is the biggest – and safest – natural skin lightener.

It can help inhibit the production of melanin and fade away stubborn hyperpigmentation from the innermost layers of the skin, giving you a more even skin tone and a brighter complexion when it’s used regularly on a daily basis.

Lighten dark spots

Alongside brightening the appearance of your skin, vitamin C can also take care of dark spots, including the ones that commonly plague the delicate skin under your eyes and around your mouth, the areas that are also highly susceptible to dark spot formation.

Now that you know the amazing benefits that vitamin C can bring, read on to learn more about a Korean 7-day brightening ampoule that the Daily Vanity team is loving right now!

medicube Deep Vita C Ampoule review: What’s unique about the 7-day brightening ampoule

It contains pure vitamin C at a 13.5% concentration

To give you maximum results, medicube Deep Vita C Ampoule is powered by pure ascorbic acid at a considerably high concentration of 13.5%.

This ratio of pure vitamin C helps to brighten the skin and fades the appearance of pigmentation while giving your visage more lift.

It is clinically tested rigorously to make the formula safe for sensitive skin

Those with sensitive skin often steer clear of vitamin C skincare out of fear that the product may trigger any kind of sensitivity in the skin.

But, you’ll be happy to know that medicube Deep Vita C Ampoule has undergone not one, not two but 12 clinical tests to ensure its efficacy and safety so that the hypoallergenic formula can even be used safely on sensitive skin.

What’s more, the serum ampoule comes in a pack of three mini brown bottles to preserve the freshness of the vitamin C ingredient.

It is highly rated by local Singapore users

It’s not just all talk and no action for the Deep Vita C Ampoule, as many local skincare users have raved about its efficacy online!

The ampoule rakes in an impressive 4.8-star rating on the official medicube website, with many users praising its ability to transform their skin tone and radiance. One user, Dini F., called it her “miracle vitamin C serum” and said that it helped brightened her skin within the first week of use.

Another reviewer, Michelle C., noticed slight improvements in her freckles after using the brightening ampoule for only a few days, while reviewer Karen C. said that she will continue using the ampoule as she observed positive changes in skin softness and brightness after using seven consecutive days of usage.

It comes with a reasonable price tag

The Deep Vita C Ampoule is priced at just a little over S$100, which is fairly reasonable considering other similar products can cost upwards of S$150 for the same concentration.

And if you may think that it’s more value for money if you splurge on a vitamin C serum that has more than 20% concentration, think again. Research has shown that vitamin C solutions are only effective up to a concentration of 20%, which means any serum claiming to have more than 20% vitamin C won’t have significantly higher efficacy.

It promises visible results in a week

Yes, you read that right – the Deep Vitamin C Ampoule requires only seven days to fade acne scars, freckles, hyperpigmentation, and ageing spots effectively, as attested by most online reviewers who have tried it.

With such a bold claim, I had to put it to the test to see it for myself. The serum ampoule came at the right time too, as I was struggling with acne scars from a recent breakout due to stress as well as my perpetual uneven skin tone where the outer part of my face always seems to look darker than the rest of my face.

Upon receiving the product, I thought that the packaging was well thought out – it was simple and fuss-free but still managed to look premium with the brown and gold hues.

I liked that the formula came in three tiny pipette bottles too, as it allowed me to use the freshest vitamin C solution possible on my skin. If you want it even fresher, you can also store it in the fridge!

Using it was really fuss-free too, simply squeeze an appropriate amount and massage it onto your face and neck as you apply it on. The yellowish formula came with a scent that took a little bit of time to get used to, but it wasn’t a major dealbreaker for me. In fact, the aroma all but disappeared after I massage the serum onto my face completely, which didn’t take more than a few seconds too – that’s how fast-absorbing the formula was.

For maximum results, I trialled the Deep Vita C Ampoule for two weeks together with a moisturiser and eye cream from the same range (more on these later!).

After seven days, I started noticing that my pigmentation and acne scars had visibly lightened and the unevenness in my skin tone seemed to have improved too.

The results were even more significant once I’ve used the serum ampoule for 14 days! Most of my acne scars as well as minor freckles that I had on my cheeks (thanks to my love for sunbathing) had been noticeably reduced. My skin tone looked more even by the end of my review period, and my skin had a subtle yet natural glow even without any makeup or skincare applied to it.

The fact that I could yield such results with a product that’s reasonably priced is another reason why I gave the Deep Vita C Ampoule extra brownie points, and I can’t wait to see the improvements in my skin tone and radiance as I continue to use the serum ampoule in my daily routine.

That said, do note that the medicube Deep Vita C Ampoule is not recommended to be used with any skincare product that contains AHA and BHA, such as the medicube Zero Pore Pad which has betaine salicylate (AHA) and salicylic acid (BHA).

Other medicube products to use for a more complete vitamin C routine

For a more complete routine, you can definitely consider trying the medicube Deep Vita C Ampoule with the Deep Vita C Cream and Deep Lifting Peptide Eye Cream – just like I did!

The medicube Deep Vita C Cream is formulated with 6.5% pure vitamin C so when used together with the Deep Vita C Ampoule, you’d achieve the ideal amount of 20% concentration for maximum efficacy.

But, that’s not all there is to the face cream – the formula also contains vitamins E, Q, and P to reduce irritation and maximise the effects of vitamin C.

When used daily with the Deep Vita C Ampoule, the moisturiser can help plump the skin and impart a radiant glow. Just like the serum ampoule, Deep Vita C Cream is not meant to be used together with the medicube Zero Pore Pad which contains Betaine salicylate (AHA) and salicylic acid (BHA).

Meanwhile, the medicube Deep Lifting Peptide Eye Cream is powered by a Peptide Complex of 20,000ppm to boost the elasticity of the delicate skin around your eyes.

For further anti-ageing benefits, the formula is also enriched with seven different kinds of collagen as well as seven different types of hyaluronic acid to deeply nourish the skin and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles while locking moisture within skin layers.

When used together with the Deep Vita C Ampoule, the concentrated vitamin C ingredient in the eye cream can help lift up any sagginess and crow’s feet around the eye area.

If you’re dealing with laugh lines and fine lines on other parts of your face, you can also apply a layer of Deep Lifting Peptide Eye Cream in the affected areas to make the age markers look less obvious!

To use, start by cleansing and toning your face before using the medicube Deep Vita C Ampoule. Follow with the Deep Lifting Peptide Eye Cream before finishing off your routine with the Deep Vita C Cream. In the morning, apply sunscreen afterwards before heading out of the house.
