What is bubble mask and why is it trending?

Bubble mask contains perfluorocarbons that dissolve oxygen gas. You apply them like a normal mask, but after several seconds, micro-bubbles begin to appear. An oxygenating action is activated, which helps energise skin, and allow key and active ingredients from the mask to penetrate deep into your skin.

Theoretically, extra oxygen in your skin increases the production of collagen and this is why bubble masks are said to be better than regular masks. While there are no scientific studies done on the bubbling masks specifically, it is believed to help your skin look more youthful and plump. Bubble masks are also said to be more hydrating and have cleansing benefits.

Nonetheless, we know that masks are generally good for our skin, and one that is so much fun to use is only going to encourage us to mask more often – and that’s always a good thing!

5 bubble masks that fit different needs and budgets

1. Philosophy The Microdelivery Detoxifying Oxygen Peel

This philosophy detox mask comes in a box of two tubes – the black tube contains a gel-textured charcoal mask that helps with skin detoxification.

Apply the charcoal mask first, and when it dries down slightly, apply the product in the white tube, which starts foaming up when you spread it in circular motion. The latter step activates a oxygenating process.

Finally, use the derma blade provided in the kit to scrape the masks away; this step helps with exfoliation. You’ll find your skin looking brighter and more energised instantly!

This mask kit retails at SGD89 and is available at Sephora.

2. The Saem Gem Miracle Black Pearl Bubble Mask

This bubble mask promises to brighten, detox, exfoliate, and purify your skin. Infused with black pearl, papaya extracts and giga-white, it will initially have a slimy texture but once you spread it over your face, it turns into a wonderful foamy mess. Get it at Lazada, where it’s offering a discount at the moment, at SGD49.38 instead of SGD55.38.
