Colour is the new black this season. Vibrant and creative colourful eyeliner is becoming popular not just amongst Gen Zs on TikTok but also with our favourite celebrities like Rosé from BLACKPINK, Ariana Grande, and Hailey Bieber.

Wearing lively shades of blue, pink, and purple on the eyes might be a little out of your comfort zone, but coloured eyeliners don’t always have to look too loud. When you choose the right styles, you’ll spice up your makeup look for everyday elegance.

Here are seven coloured eyeliner looks that you can pull off effortlessly!

The simple cat-eye

Simply swap your black eyeliner for coloured eyeliner and trace it over your upper lash line. Whether you love a simple stroke that ends at the outer corner of your eyes, or an edgier feline flick, a coloured eyeliner can add a spirited pop of colour to jazz up your everyday cat-eye.

Colour your lower lash line or waterline

Flip the fun upside-down by applying coloured eyeliner to your lower lash line or waterline – the skin that’s between your lashes and eye. You won’t have to ditch your usual black eyeliner with this style. All you have to do is spice it up with some colour on the lower lash line.

If you want a bolder streak of colour, you can also apply a thick stroke over the lower lash or blend the colour downwards for makeup that looks more like eyeshadow.

Accentuate your black liner

Out of the many ways you can be creative with this style, our favourite is to underline only the wing of the black liner with a light-coloured liner; by adding a light shade to only the outer corners of the eyes, you brighten your eyes. Neon hues also don’t look over the top, since they only appear in a small ray at the corners.

You can also trace the coloured eyeliner over the full length of your black eyeliner – from the inner corner to the wingtip for a look that’s bold and beautiful.

Negative space graphic liner

A graphic liner style that’s been spotted on personalities like Kylie Jenner, this eyeliner extends upwards in a regular wing but returns towards the crease of the eye. This liner flaunts the shape of the eye in a fresh, minimalist style. You don’t have to lay on a thick liner to look stunning.

Full coloured eyeliner

Line your eyes both top and bottom with coloured eyeliner to make them pop. Whilst black eyeliner can look heavy on the eyes, a bright-coloured liner around the eye will instead widen your eyes for a brighter eye look.

Floating crease eyeliner

Rosé from BLACKPINK wore her new favourite floating eyeliner in black to the MET gala as an elegant fashion statement, but she’s also been spotted with neon pink and green eyeliner in other photos on her Instagram.

Ariana Grande also flaunted the floating crease eyeliner style as she was launching her R.E.M. Beauty line. Instead of drawing the liner along her entire crease, she only wore it on the arch of her brow.

This graphic style is best achieved with a liquid coloured eyeliner that avoids smudges and keeps lines clean and crisp.

Two-coloured liner

Since we’re embracing colours, why not take on two shades at once? Instead of one wing on your negative space graphic liner look, you can fill in with two wings in different colours.

Or, rather than just use orange across your lash line, you can meet it halfway with a bright green liner. This way, there will always be new colour combinations to go for and you’ll always be able to switch things up for a fresh look!

Choosing the right coloured eyeliner will depend on the style you’re looking to achieve. For the full-coloured eyeliner look, it’s best to choose a liner that’s a crayon or pencil for easy blending.

If you’re applying eyeliner on your waterline, it’s also good to have a pencil that’s water- and smudge-resistant so that it stays on during and after application. Should you be trying to achieve a crisp, graphic liner look, then liquid eyeliners are your best bet!

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil

This coloured eyeliner pencil is called 24/7 for a reason.

The eyeliner glides onto the lash line or waterline with a smooth, creamy texture that stays soft for the first 30 seconds, which allows you to blend the colour out or wipe it off if you’ve made a mistake. It then settles to create a metallic finish and stays extremely smudge-proof throughout the rest of your day.
