As makeup becomes more widely recognised as an artistic form of personal expression, there is also a greater acceptance of colourful, dramatic makeup in everyday life. Makeup brushes are also becoming more interesting in terms of packaging, reflecting the personality of the user as much as the makeup looks they create. We found ten makeup brush collections that any makeup addict would dream to own!
1. Tarte’s Magic Wands Brush Set
Cult favourite makeup brand tarte released their Make Believe in Yourself line a couple of months ago and, as anticipated, beauty lovers everywhere rejoiced. While the summer collection boasts a gorgeous jewel-toned eye and cheek palette (with signature Amazonian clay, no less), new matte lip paint shades, and a rainbow highlighter amongst others, the standout product of the bunch is the Magic Wands Brush Set.
tarte’s Magic Wands come in a set of five, with two for your eyes and three for your face. Fun, over-the-top bristle colours aside, the main draw of this brush set is the brush handles, which resemble golden unicorn horns! Doing your makeup just got a lot more magical. The Magic Wands Brush Set is also vegan and cruelty-free, and reviews on Sephora have emphasised how soft they feel to the touch.
They are available at Sephora
2. Unicorn Lashes Original Unicorn Brushes
This 10-piece brush set claims to be the OG in terms of the unicorn brush trend that’s been going around. Unlike the Tarte set, Unicorn Lashes’s version has iridescent unicorn horn handles, and brush hairs are a dreamy mix of pastels. The best part about this kit? It comes with a “Diamond Unicorn Bag” included in the price, which you can re-use as a purse if you like.
They are available online at Unicorn Lashes
3. Unicorn Lashes Mermaid Brushes
Currently sold out online, but you can join the waiting list at Unicorn Lashes
Unicorn Lashes knows what they’re doing when it comes to novelty makeup brushes. If anything can top their unicorn brush set, it’s got to be these mermaid brushes! Each brush in this set is uniquely designed, making them pretty enough to be displayed on your vanity even if you don’t get around to using them!
4. Chubby Mermaid Tail Brushes
Great as a contouring brush, this one from Mermaid Salon is a palm-sized tool that has a handle shaped like a wide fishtail. It doesn’t just look adorable and will be a fun addition to your beauty stash, it is also functional – the scaly design makes sure you get a better grip.
You can find the product at Mermaid Salon’s online store.
5. Etude House Wonder Fun Park Brushes
Another cotton candy-esque makeup brush option for the pastel lovers in you is the brushes from ETUDE HOUSE Wonder Fun Park collection. Doing your makeup with these may transport you to your own personal fairytale! They resemble a more toned-down version of the Unicorn Lashes Original Unicorn Brushes, but only come in three forms (blush, highlighter, and eyeshadow). We’ve written a post about the rest of the collection, which is limited edition.
6. Too Faced Teddy Bear Hair Brush Set
If you love all things cute, this one’s for you. The name says it all – these brushes are made with synthetic hair bristles that feel as soft and smooth as they sound! Too Faced is also a cruelty-free company, so while the “teddy bear hair” may feel like real animal hair, they’re totally guilt-free for your conscience.
It is available at Sephora.
7. e.l.f. Beautifully Precise Brush Collection
Don’t worry, we haven’t forgotten the minimalists! When e.l.f. launched the Beautifully Precise Brush Collection at slightly higher prices compared to their regular makeup brush lines, people were slightly thrown off. That said, this brush collection has seen good review after good review about how great the quality is. Even YouTube beauty guru KathleenLights swears by the smudge brush from the collection! The clean and sleek design of these brushes will easily make any vanity look classier too.
They’re available online at e.l.f.
8. Skinny Dip Marble Eye Kit You Not Brush Set
Skinny Dip has jumped on the marble trend with this one, producing a set of makeup brushes with gold metal and white marble detailing. These brushes are said to be made of good quality, on top of being Instagram-worthy.
They are available online at Skinny Dip London
9. Wizard wand makeup brushes
Launched by Storybook Cosmetics, these gunmetal brushes that look like wizard wands took Instagram by storm and sold out very quickly. After the successful launch, the brand has since launched these popular brushes in different shades, including gold and rose gold.
They’re available here.
10. What’s in a name Rose Brushes
These certainly look like roses from a distance. In a set of four, these are also from Storybook Cosmetics, and are made of synthetic bristles. Take note that while you can use them with both cream and liquid makeup, the brand recommends them more for powder products, because of the bristle density. These brushes are also packed in a custom rose pouch when you receive them.
