What is arguably the biggest local red carpet event happened last night.
Star Awards 2018 saw many of its latest and greatest rising stars clinch coveted awards, but it also celebrated some of Mediacorp’s oldest veterans – we know you cheered too when Jin Yin Ji finally got a long-awaited Top 10 Most Popular Female Artiste award after more than 30 years in the business.
It wasn’t just the celebrities’ acting chops that caused nationwide buzz this year. These are some of the hottest makeup and hair trends spotted on the celebs on the red carpet.
1. Red lips never die
At every red carpet event, you can’t miss out on the classic red lips. It’s dangerously feminine, it makes a statement, and it looks good on virtually any one.
Things did not change last night, with some of our favourite celebrities killing the red lip look, including veteran TV host Kym Ng who, with huge support from her fans and celebrity friends alike, landed the Best Supporting Actress award.
Others who sported red lips during the event were Carrie Wong, Lin Peifen, and Bonnie Loo.

2. MLBB (My lips but better) colours are all the rage
The red lips trend also had a serious contender in the “my lips but better” (MLBB) nude lip colours that were sweeping across the red carpet last night. The MLBB look not only allowed celebrities to let the rest of their makeup shine, but also helped to soften their overall look.
Best Lead Actress winner Rebecca Lim was a natural with her demure MLBB lip colour which complemented her striking forest green dress in the style of The Great Gatsby oh so well.
Also seen with their own takes on the MLBB lips were Belinda Lee, Chantalle Ng, Paige Chua, and Sheila Sim (in a gorgeous back-flaunting sequin dress).
3. Short hair, don’t care
You may have realised that short hair is becoming more and more trendy in the past few years. How many of your friends have already chopped off their long locks in favour of a shorter, lighter bob?
The celebrities are no different. Last night saw a huge show-up of the short bobs amongst the stars, a stark difference to previous years when long, bouncy curls were in. Those that slayed the short bob included the Queen, Zoe Tay, and Aiyoyo Laoshi, Chen Liping.
Amongst former long haired beauties who have now opted for a shorter bob were Felicia Chin, Hong Ying, Ya Hui, Michelle Wong, Kayly Loh, and Hayley Woo.
4. Wear them buns
For those who didn’t want to go for the short bob look, a messy bun, both low and high, was the go-to updo for the celebrities.
Hong Kong actress Charmaine Sheh, who was presenting awards last night at Mediacorp, looked particularly sweet with her low messy bun complementing her pastel floral dress.
Joining her with their own version of messy buns are the likes of Joanne Peh and Kimberly Chia.
